Earlier this year, we spoke to the Town of Chapel Hill to learn what would be involved in creating a pedestrian-friendly path.
Please reach out to us at trac@tracmanagement.com if you cannot find answers to your questions.
Adding a sidewalk is not a good option because it would most likely change the impervious surface ratios that were approved by the community, requiring new hearings and a high likelihood of not being approved.
While it may be possible, the fire department would have to approve it to be sure it would support the weight of the trucks. Also, it would be expensive and still not solve the problem with strollers or wheelchairs.
Any proposal requires us to hire an engineer to create the plan, which costs $2,500. We then must submit an application and pay fees, which cost $1,500.
Once we submit a plan and application, it will take three weeks for them to review it, make adjustments, and then send it back for approval.
